SLIIT hosted the SLIIT Research Symposium (SRS) for
the fifth consecutive year on the 22nd of
December at the institution’s auditorium, located at
the Malabe campus.
The theme of the research symposium this year “ICT
for National Development and Integration” addressed
the significant role IT plays in the fields of
industry, education, infrastructure development,
employment and social integration, which the country
is facing after three decades of war. Key note
addresses were by Prof. Jagath C. Rajapakshe,
Professor of Computer Engineering, Director,
Bioinformatics Research Centre, Nanyang
Technological University, Singapore and Mr. Deepal
Sooriaarachchi, Managing Director, Eagle Insurance
PLC.
The SRS, an open forum for academics and industry
professionals, the only research symposium where
registration was free to all participants, was a
unique opportunity to discuss the latest issues and
challenges pertaining to the IT industry in the
country. Additionally, a collection of research
papers documenting the proceedings of the SRS - 2009
were published to trigger further research and
augment progress within the domain of Information
Technology.
