SLIIT secured seven awards at the recently held National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) competition, which saw participants from 20 organizations compete in 12 categories, with the addition of a 13th Tertiary Category to include projects from students from both local Universities and private institutes. SLIIT presented 17 projects for the event in the Tertiary Category.
The NBQSA is an annual event organized by The British Computer Society , Sri Lanka Section(BCSSL). The objectives of the competition are to provide recognition to outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations in the country that have contributed to the development of ICT, to create a window to gain international recognition for locally developed ICT products and to improve the standards and quality of local ICT products and services to be able to compete within the global market place. The competition is open to sixteen categories of software ranging from Applications and Infrastructure Tools software to Media and Entertainment Applications Software.
SLIIT received the following awards in the Tertiary Category: Silver – C.P Jayasinghe, H.P.S Madusanka, N.M.E.S Nawarathne and I.K. Amarasinghe of SLIIT for 'Project Kundalini', Merit – B.H.K.C Jayamal, S.G.C.V Senarathna, K.S Gajanayaka and S.L. Amarasekara for 'feedIO - A feed aggregator that prioritizes the articles based on the users reading preferences', Merit – I.S Dewasurendra, P.J Wijerathne, A.C.S Athukorala and P.K.I.P Pothuvila of SLIIT for 'REEBIS - Remote Electricity Billing System using mobile phone', Special Recognition – M.D.S Fernando, T.H.M Fernando, A.U Seneviratne and N. Amarasinghe for “Metric-based Code Analyzing Tool (MBCAT), Special Recognition - Laksri Wijerathna, Lahiru Somaweera, Yashodhya Wijesinghe and Shyamika Kaduruwana for 'Sinhala to English translator (STET)'.
The Special Award Category winners were as follows; The Best Product Developed using Open Source Technologies - SLIIT for “Project Kundalini”, and Best Local Language Software by SLIIT for “Sinhala to English Translator (STET)”
SLIIT Chairman - Professor S. Karunaratne said in this regard: “I would like to congratulate the winning teams for their efforts to produce applications which display skill and innovation”. Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT, stated that “The winning teams, their supervisors and co-supervisors and the final year project coordinator should be commended for their dedication, perseverance and commitment towards these projects. We are extremely proud of their achievements”.
