Student Life @ SLIIT

Studying at SLIIT is one of the best experiences a Sri Lankan student can ever have. What makes it so? The reasons are many. It is a university with a difference. In a sense it is unique.

SLIIT uses the latest technology in delivering knowledge to its students. Students listen to lectures and view slides simultaneously through multimedia projections. These lectures are all in fully air-conditioned lecture halls. Students are permitted to clarify their doubts from the lecturer while the lecture is going on. This is rare in other local seats of learning. Interactive lecture sessions, tutorials and lab classes are common at SLIIT. The labs are equipped with the latest technological developments and the students have accessibility to the labs at any time they are vacant.

The library has a wide range of books relating to IT from publishers and authors all around the world. Some of these books are unavailable in Sri Lankan book stores but, SLIIT students enjoy the facility of referencing and or borrowing rare masterpieces in its library. Besides, they can rest assured the latest in any field of IT will be available at the first opportunity.

SLIIT is very concerned about its student population. For students with difficulty to pay lump sums as semester fees up front, there is a scholarship scheme that allows them the opportunity of gaining an entire semester or half a semester free. But, of course one has to prove one's capabilities to win these scholarships. Scholarships are given entirely on merit and all a student requires to win a scholarship is a GPA of above 3.5 per semester.

Student welfare is another concern of SLIIT. Students enjoy the fully air-conditioned cafetaria on the 10th floor with its delicious items of food sold at reasonable prices. The cafetaria, as well as the common areas on the 9th and 12th floors of the Metropolitan Campus, serve as study areas and fun centers.
