BSc Special(Hons) in Information Technology
The Program
From the year 2004 onwards, the four-year B.Sc. Special Honours Degree has been restructuredto provide avenues for students to specialize in three different areas namely,
i. Information Technology
ii. Information Systems
iii. Computer Systems & Networking
iv. Software Engineering
Students could choose the area of specialization depending on their preferences and abilities.
Specializations
01. Information Technology
The degree program specializing in Information Technology covers the more technological and applied aspects of computing discipline including software design and software engineering, operating systems, systems administration, and technical support, as well as networking.
Graduates of this program typically find positions as software engineers, Software Developers software architects, software quality assurance engineers, web developers, IT managers and systems administrators .
02. Information Systems
The degree program specializing in Information Systems caters to those who are interested in becoming specialists that focus on integrating information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of business and other enterprises, enabling them to achieve their objectives in an effective and efficient manner.
Graduates of this program typically find careers as business analysts, system analysts, information managers, and information specialists.
03. Computer Systems & Networking
The degree program specializing in Computer Systems and Networking covers the computer engineering aspects of computing discipline including computer hardware, network engineering, embedded systems, communication systems, interface design, and automation.
Positions available for such graduates include network engineers, network designers, systems designers, systems administrators, embedded systems designers, embedded software designers, Information Systems Auditors, Information Security Managers, Database Administrators, IT Managers and Communication Engineers .
04. Specializing in Software Engineering
The degree programme specializing in Software Engineering prepares for a professional career by providing the necessary skills needed to develop large scale software systems. It combines a solid foundation in requirements engineering, human computer interaction, software analysis and design, programming, software quality assurance, communication skills and an understanding of the social effects of IT. Graduates following this programme find positions as: software engineers, mobile application developers, UI engineers, software architects, games developers, software quality assurance engineers.Entry Requirements

Course Fee
An all inclusive fee to cover lectures, tutorials and examinations and access to computer laboratory facilities and library is payable prior at the commencement of the programme. The fee is presently Rs. 82,000/= (all inclusive) per semester. Fees for any subsequent semester should be paid prior to the commencement of each semester.
The fees should be credited to, Account No 1630552 of the Bank of Ceylon in favour of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, at the Bank of Ceylon Kollupitiya Branch located at the first floor of the BoC Merchant Tower Building or at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon; or to Account No 00 399 0000033 of the Sampath Bank at any branch of Sampath Bank.
