Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

Our MPhil degrees are offered in both Computing and Engineering fields. These programmes have been developed while considering the latest industry trends and immerging technologies that’s currently being used in the industry. The candidate has to proceed with this programme in research work. Since SLIIT is always encourage individuals to mold in inventions to develop the nations wellbeing.

Eligibility Requirements

An applicant may fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements to be admitted to MPhil Programme, if he/she has any one of the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Honours Degree of SLQF level 6 with a minimum of 15 credits in a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree of SLQF level 5 with a minimum GPA of 3 on a scale of 0-4 and after the successful completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF 6 in a related field.
  • A qualification of SLQF level 7, i.e. a Postgraduate Certificate or above in a related field.
  • Completion of NVQF level 7 with a minimum GPA of 3 in a scale of 0-4 and the successful completion of 30 credit equivalent to SLQF level 6 or above in a related field as approved by the institute

Selection to the MPhil programme

Selection to the programme is based on

- Academic performance
- The strength of the research proposal
- Research capabilities demonstrated
- The strength of recommendations
- The relevance of background and experience to proposed research work

The shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by SLIIT. At the interview, the overall suitability of the applicant to follow MPhil programme is assessed.

Registration

  • An applicant granted admission to the MPhil program shall register as MPhil Research Student (MRS) within a period of three months from the date stipulated by SLIIT.
  • A Student, upon passing a qualifying examination after one year from the date of registration as a MRS, may be allowed to register as a Candidate of the MPhil programme and to proceed with the programme.
  • The studentship of MPhil Research Student failing the qualifying examination twice will automatically be terminated.

Supervisors and Co-Supervisors

Applicants are advised to find suitable supervisor and co-supervisors before submitting the application. The supervisor of a MPhil student should be a faculty member of SLIIT.  On request, SLIIT may be able provide some assistance to find supervisors.

Supervisors of MPhil programs should be:

  • knowledgeable in the subject area to be covered in the research program,
  • holding an MPhil Degree or higher qualification, or a  person of eminent research standing acceptable to SLIIT.

Duration : 3 Years Part time / 2 Year Full time

The minimum duration of the programme leading to the Degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) shall be:

  • Two years (or 24 months) for full-time students and
  • Three years (or 36 months) for part-time students

පාඨමාලා ගාස්තු

MPhil Program is Rs. 600,000 plus tax. Application processing fees Rs. 1500/= has to be paid in the beginning of the registrations for MPhil Programmes. Fees can be paid to the bank accounts of SLIIT at any branch.

All inclusive fee to cover lectures, tutorials, examinations, access to computer laboratory facilities and the library and is payable prior to the commencement of the programme.

The fee should be credited to Account No 1630552 of the Bank of Ceylon in favor of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, at the bank of Ceylon Colpetty branch located at first floor of BOC Merchant Tower building or at any branch of BOC. Or Sampath bank account number 003990000033 of the Sampath bank at any branch of Sampath bank. Course fees are subjected to change.

Refund Policy

Full course fees paid will not be refunded. However, request for refund of fees may be considered if made before expire of one week from the date of commencement of lectures. From the date of commencement of lectures 90% of the paid amount will be refunded. If a request for a refund is received after one week but before the end of the month, 50% of the paid amount will be refunded. Thereafter, there will be no refunds of fees.
