SLIIT Journal of Humanities & Sciences (SJHS)

It is with great pride and immense pleasure that I wish to send this message to all staff and members of the Faculty of Humanities & Sciences on the launch of this inaugural issue of the SLIIT Journal. It’s wonderful to see the youngest faculty of our university publishing its very own journal which is the first peer-reviewed research bulletin of the faculty and the second to be issued by the university.

We see a gradual change in concepts and ideologies of the modern-day university education in comparison to the university education system in the past era. Universities only remained as institutions dedicated to academics and seen far from been engaged in social corporate practices and non-committed to community issues. Today universities and higher education institutions have adopted new theories and practices to involve in ‘engagement scholarship’ and constructively undertake creative and innovative research that will effectively address social issues and constructively contribute towards overall national development.

I am pleased that the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences has transformed itself to involve in engagement scholarship and has brought out this journal, which is a remarkable outcome of their first international conference (SICASH) which was held last January.

I congratulate the Dean of the Faculty, the editorial board, the academic and non-academic staff and all others for their commitment, dedication, and hard work to bring out this Journal, which I am confident will be cited in international academia.

I wish you all the best.

Prof. Lakshman Ratnayake
Chancellor

It is with great pride and enormous happiness, I send this message to the inaugural issue of the SLIIT Journal of Humanities & Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities & Sciences which is the youngest faculty of our university. This is the first peer-reviewed research journal of the Faculty and the second one of our University.

Gone are the days that universities remained as Ivory Towers where disengaged academics were primarily concerned with their academic work and remained unconcerned and non-committed to the community issues. Today universities and higher education institutions are expected to involve in ‘engagement scholarship’ and constructively undertake creative and innovative researches that will effectively address social issues and constructively contribute towards overall national development. I am pleased that the Faculty of humanities and Sciences has transformed itself to involve in engagement scholarship and has brought out this journal which is a remarkable outcome of their first international conference SICASH held in last January.

I congratulate the Dean of the Faculty, the editorial board and the academic and non-academic staff and all others for their commitment, dedication and hard work to bring out this Journal which, I am confident, will be considered by the international academic community.

I wish you all well.

Prof. Lalith Gamage
Vice Chancellor

It gives me immense pleasure to send this congratulatory message on the eve of the publication of the first issue of the SLIIT Journal of Humanities and Sciences, which I hope will be the pride of the Faculty of Humanities & Sciences (FHS) and our university. Since its inception, FHS has seen rapid growth and has an excellent group of students and staff committed to pushing the frontiers of research.

Research is an integral component of universities, and it should be constructive, innovative, and supportive for national and international development. Social, economic and technological development is possible only if the research outcomes are effectively disseminated through high-quality research journals. I am confident that with time SLIIT Journal of Humanities and Sciences will become a leading platform for local and international scholars to publish their research findings.

SLIIT is the highest-ranked and the largest non-state higher education institution in the country. It is a matter of time for SLIIT to be recognized as a leading university in Asia. SLIIT Journal of H&S will be another stepping stone in our successful journey towards global excellence.

I take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the Dean of the Faculty, the Editorial Board and all staff for their commitment, dedication and hard work to bring out this first issue of the Journal. I am confident that the Journal will be indexed internationally in future and serve as a repository of cutting edge research.

Prof. Nimal Rajapakse
Deputy Vice-Chancellor

It is with great pleasure, I send this message to the inaugural issue of the SLIIT Journal of Humanities & Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities & Sciences. Although our faculty is the youngest in our university, we are proud to have commenced an annual international conference and a journal to promote research and disseminate knowledge.

As SLIIT aims to become a high ranking university in the region all our academics are encouraged to publish their research locally and internationally. We believe that it is only through research, the horizons of knowledge could be expanded.

I would like to express my appreciation to the editorial board and the academic and non-academic staff for their commitment, dedication and hard work to bring out this Journal which, I am confident, will be recognized and cited in international academia.

Dr. Malitha Wijesundara
Dean/FHS

It is indeed with enormous pride and sheer enthusiasm we present the inaugural issue of SLIIT Journal of Humanities and Sciences (SJHS) which is first research journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, the youngest Faculty of SLIIT.

Teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge are the three integral functions of any university, and we are extremely happy and proud that we are publishing a journal that will facilitate our Faculty to effectively disseminate the knowledge we produce from our research and studies. We will also make SJHS a common forum to publish research articles from external researches and academics.

The eleven articles in this journal were originally among the fifty papers submitted in the first SLIIT International Conference on the Advancements in Humanities and Sciences (SICASH) which was held online on 26th March 2021. In his inaugural address, Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, the Conference Chair / Dean of the Faculty announced of his vision of publishing a research journal with selected high quality papers submitted in the conference. We are happy that the journal has become a reality fulfilling the vision of the Dean.

We hope to make SJHS an annual publication of the Faculty. We will make every possible endeavour to transform SJHS to be an innovative and creative journal that provides a challenging forum to showcase contemporary research work of the Faculty members and also to promote healthy academic debate and engagement scholarship in the academic community.

First of all, we sincerely thank all the contributors for working tirelessly to improve the quality of their articles to be included in this issue. We also thank the members of the Review Panel and the Editorial Board for their timely support and cooperation. Our special thanks to the distinguished members of the International Editorial Advisory Board for agreeing to serve on the board amidst their busy schedules.

Our sincere thanks to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor for their continuous support and also for their congratulatory messages to this inaugural issue of SJHS. Our special thanks to the Dean/FHS for his visionary leadership and unstinted support without which we are sure that this journal would not have been a reality. Last, but not least we very sincerely thank all the academic and non-academic staff of the FHS for their commitment and dedication to make this journey a success.

We fervently hope that SJHS will soon attract the notice of the local and international academic and research communities.
