“Congratulations to SLIIT Chess Team on being crowned as the Overall 1st Runners up at the 6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023”
The “6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023” organized by the SLIIT Chess Club in collaboration with the SLIIT Physical Education & Sports Unit (SLIIT Sports Council) was held on 23rd of February 2023 at the SLIIT Malabe Campus.
This year, teams from 19 Universities/Institutes all over the island participated in this glamorous event.
The opening ceremony was glamoured with the graceful participation of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) Professor Samantha Thelijjagoda, Administrative Staff members of SLIIT, and Officials representing invited universities/Institutes.
National Chess Team player Ms. Sachini Ranasinghe was the Chief guest at the closing ceremony. She is the first Sri Lankan player to get awarded the title of Woman International Master and the only Sri Lankan player to win the Asian zonal 3.2 chess championship and to participate in the World Chess Cup in 2012.
The Men’s & Women’s Championship of the 6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023 was won by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). The Men’s & Women’s 1st Runners up of the 6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023 were won by the SLIIT. The Men’s 2nd Runners up of the 6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023 were won by CINEC Campus.
The Women’s 2nd Runners up of the 6th SLIIT CASTLE FEST 2023 were won by NSBM Green University.
