The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) was founded in 1999 and is approved by the Ministry of Education & University Grants Commission (UGC), standing as a symbol of excellence in private tertiary education. Celebrating 25 years, SLIIT is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the International Association of Universities (IAU). It is also the first Sri Lankan institute accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK. The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) recognizes the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Degree programs offered at SLIIT.
SLIIT, with its main campus in Malabe, and SLIIT Metro Campus at BOC Merchant Tower along with several centers in Matara and Kurunegala, covers a wide expanse in Sri Lanka. The newest additions to the SLIIT family are SLIIT Kandy Uni, nestled in Pallekele, and the Northern Uni in Jaffna.
In the QS Asia University Ranking 2023, we have been recognized as 7th in Sri Lanka and within the top 200 in South Asia. Moreover, in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2023, we secured the 6th position in the Nation. Additionally, in the 2024 Scimago Institutional Ranking, we emerged 5th position overall in Sri Lanka, in the first quartile. Across all the rankings, we stand proud as the number 1 non-state higher education institution in Sri Lanka. The Institute fosters an active research culture through initiatives such as the research grant scheme, integrating research methodology into curricula, and establishing a research center. Together with state-of-the-art facilities, SLIIT aims to offer our students a unique learning experience that enables them to succeed on their life journey.
The Institute produces highly employable graduates at all levels in IT and other industries, accommodating over 25,000 students and holding a 96% employment rate, with an alumni base of over 40,000 graduates. We offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, ranging from Bachelor's to Master's, and PhD in areas such as Information Technology, Engineering, Business Management, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Psychology, Nursing, Education, Law, Hospitality and Tourism Management, etc., to develop self-sufficient, analytically strong individuals with critical thinking skills to become performing leaders in their respective fields. Looking ahead, SLIIT is also exploring the introduction of a Medicine program.
Students benefit from the best of academic and student life with multidisciplinary faculties and recreational facilities. With over 50 industry partners, students can participate in internship programs, industry placements, etc. Additionally, SLIIT has collaborative agreements with foreign universities and affiliations with leading global universities such as Curtin, Liverpool John Moores, University of Edinburgh, University of Western Australia, and the University of Queensland, among others, providing students with the best global educational experience.
Our panel of lecturers consists of over 400 eminent academics, both in-house and visiting, from national and international arenas. Many hold doctorates and possess extensive experience and international research backgrounds from renowned universities. With a combined professional experience of over 5000 years, they excel in diverse fields such as computer science, engineering, law, architecture, and the social sciences, making them well-equipped to guide our students. With superior research facilities and optimum resources, SLIIT encourages students to reach new heights in both innovation and excellence. The consistently high standards that we strive to maintain ensure our graduates are not only accepted on the global platform but are also able to effectively tackle challenges in the real world.
