Of course. Sessions are conducted in Tamil, Sinhala, and English languages, so you may choose what feels most comfortable for you.
Yes! Counselling and psychotherapy services are completely free for all currently registered students as well as staff members.
You can talk about anything that is affecting your well-being, including stress, anxiety, sadness, relationship issues, academic pressure, family concerns, or simply feeling overwhelmed.
Unsure about whether you need counselling or therapy? You may try a session and see if this is an experience that is beneficial to you.
Sessions usually last 45–60 minutes, giving you enough time to talk at your own pace.
Yes. You and your therapist can decide together what feels beneficial - whether it’s a single session or having ongoing support.
Both options are available. You can choose in-person or online sessions based on what’s easier for you.
Yes, everything you share is confidential. However, in the instance that there is risk of harm to yourself or others, confidentiality may be breached and relevant individuals will be informed. This is to ensure that everyone is safe.
We are available Monday to Saturday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with flexible timings to fit your schedule. You may choose the session that works out best for your schedule when you book it.
Not at all. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a “big problem” to seek support. Many students come to counselling and therapy to talk through everyday challenges, understand their thoughts and emotions, and learn healthier ways of coping with stress.
You can come in if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or confused. Counselling is a space for both support and self-development- whether you’re going through a difficult time or simply want to feel more balanced and confident in your daily life.

Dr. M D D Bulathwatta
Doctor
CAREER SUMMARY
Dr. Dhananjaya Bulathwatta is a medical professional with extensive experience in emergency medicine and cardiac life support. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Peradeniya and a Diploma in Medical Administration from New Zealand. His career includes roles such as Consultant Medical Advisor at Falck Sri Lanka and Manager at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand. Following his service at the American Embassy in Sri Lanka, Dr. Bulathwatta now serves as the Senior Medical Officer at SLIIT Uni, where he contributes to institutional healthcare initiatives and student well-being.
In parallel with his clinical roles, he is actively engaged in medical education and community outreach. He has delivered numerous sessions on cardiac life support and participated in awareness programs through the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health in Oman, where he served as Chief Medical Officer in brigades and local hospitals.

Ms. Harithra Chandrasehar
SLMC Licensed Clinical Psychologist
CAREER SUMMARY
Harithra Chandrasehar is a Clinical Psychologist licensed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council. She completed her Bachelor's degree (Hons.) in Psychology at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA) and her Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the University of Colombo. Harithra has worked extensively within the Development Sector, collaborating with numerous non-governmental organizations to provide mental health and psychosocial support services to individuals and communities affected by trauma, including the civil war and other personal experiences of violence. Her professional background includes supervising counsellors delivering psychological support across Sri Lanka, designing interventions, and managing programs to address mental health needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Harithra has over seven years of experience as a lecturer in Psychology, having taught at both state and non-state universities in Sri Lanka. She is also committed to advocacy and inclusion, volunteering her services to organizations that support individuals who identify as LGBTIQ. Her diverse academic and professional experience reflects a deep commitment to mental health, education, and social justice.

Ms. Sachini Ohara Pathiraja is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in mental health care. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from Deakin University, Australia, equipping her with a strong foundation in psychological theories and practices. She further specialized in clinical psychology through a Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colombo and obtained a Master of Autism from the University of Wollongong, focusing on her expertise in autism spectrum disorders.
With over five years of clinical experience, Ms. Sachini has worked as a clinical psychologist in various settings, including hospitals and institutions both in Sri Lanka and abroad. Her evidence-based therapeutic approach and commitment to client-centered care have positively impacted the lives of many individuals. Beyond her clinical practice, she has also served as a project manager, notably contributing to the revision of Sri Lanka’s mental health policy in 2015. Her leadership in the ‘Study Australia Industry Experience Program’ further enhanced her ability to work effectively in team settings, improving employability and fostering cross-cultural understanding through practical industry experiences.
In academia, Ms. Sachini serves as a lecturer in psychology, offering students a strong academic foundation enriched by her real-world clinical experience. Her teaching bridges theory with practice, creating an engaging and applied learning environment. She adheres to the scientist-practitioner model, maintaining a continuous commitment to research and professional development, which underscores her dedication to excellence in mental health care.

Ms. Tharani Sugi Ramkumar
Clinical Psychologist
CAREER SUMMARY
Tharani Sugi Ramkumar is a Clinical Psychologist. She completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, and holds a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from Coventry University, UK. She also completed her Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo. She has gained extensive clinical experience through her training in state hospitals in Sri Lanka, working with children, adolescents and adults presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns. She is fluent in English and Tamil and has working proficiency in Sinhala, enabling her to provide culturally responsive and accessible mental health services to diverse populations. She is trained in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions within multidisciplinary team settings.
In addition to her clinical work, she has experience in supervising students in the design and completion of their research dissertations. Her work is guided by a commitment to ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and compassionate, evidence-based care.
She aims to create supportive therapeutic spaces that promote holistic well-being and empower individuals to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, while contributing to the advancement of accessible, high-quality mental health services in Sri Lanka. Ms. Pathmasri Sivalingam is a Clinical Psychologist with diverse experience in providing evidence-based psychological care across a wide range of clinical populations. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Psychology from the University of Coventry (UK) and a Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colombo. She is also currently undergoing specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
With over three years of clinical experience, Ms. Pathmasri has worked in leading healthcare settings in Sri Lanka, including tertiary care hospitals and specialized child and adolescent services, working with children, adolescents, and adults. She supports individuals facing challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and behavioral concerns. Her approach is warm, supportive, and tailored to each individual, using evidence-based therapies such as CBT, ACT, DBT, and mindfulness-based techniques.
In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Pathmasri is actively engaged in academic and training roles. She serves as a lecturer in psychology and a research supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing to the development of future mental health professionals. Her academic involvement spans both state and non-state universities in Sri Lanka, where she is recognized for integrating practical clinical insights into her teaching. Her work reflects a strong commitment to ethical practice, culturally sensitive care, and the promotion of mental health awareness within the community.
