The SLIIT International Foundation (SIF) programme is a preparatory curriculum designed to equip students for successful undergraduate studies in English-medium universities. The programme fosters the development of subject knowledge, study skills, and English language proficiency to a level commensurate with smooth transition to higher education.

The SLIIT International Foundation (SIF) is the ideal starting point for students who have not completed their Advanced Level (A/L) qualifications but aspire to pursue a recognised degree.
With flexible entry routes, experienced academic support, and an internationally aligned curriculum, SIF provides a solid foundation to confidently transition into a range of selected foreign undergraduate degree programmes or its global partner universities.
The programme covers a carefully designed curriculum that builds essential academic skills and subject knowledge in areas such as computing, business, mathematics, communication, and critical thinking. These modules are tailored to prepare you for your chosen degree path while helping you adapt to university-level study in a supportive learning environment.
Upon successful completion of the SIF program, you will qualify for direct entry into selected degree programmes offered at SLIIT. You’ll also develop strong English proficiency, academic readiness, and technical knowledge—giving you the confidence and capabilities to thrive in your higher education journey. This pathway opens doors to both local and international academic opportunities.

More about the program
Successful completion of the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination (Sri Lanka, Edexcel, or Cambridge) or an equivalent qualification is required.
Local O/L- Minimum of six passes including 'C' passes in Mathematics and English. Edexcel/ Cambridge O/L- Minimum of six passes (Pass = D), including 'C' passes in Mathematics and English is mandatory.
Please note that the English language requirement can be waived if the candidate provides an overall Academic IELTS score of 4.5 or higher.
The fee is presently Rs. 325,000/- per semester (Rs. 650,000 for the 1-year programme). This all-inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials and examinations and access to computer laboratory facilities and the library.
The application fee of Rs. 2000/- should be credited to SLIIT via one of the following bank accounts:
The fees should be credited to, Account No 1630552 of the Bank of Ceylon in favour of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, at the Bank of Ceylon Kollupitiya Branch located at the first floor of the BoC Merchant Tower Building or at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon; or to Account No 00 399 0000033 of the Sampath Bank at any branch of Sampath Bank. Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester. The date of commencement of lectures for the new applicants will be the date of commencement of lectures of the Orientation Programme. The refund, if made will be subject to a deduction of ten percent of the fee paid

Students who have not completed their Advanced Level (A/L) qualifications or do not meet the direct entry requirements for degree programs are eligible to apply.
The program typically runs for one academic year (2 semesters).
The SIF offers foundation streams in Business, Computing/IT, and Engineering, other, depending on the student’s intended degree path.
Successful completion of the SIF programme guarantees entry into selected foreign undergraduate degree programmes at SLIIT. A/Ls are compulsory to enroll in SLIIT awarded degree programmes.
