Mathfest

 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (DMS) in the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences (FHS) at SLIIT University proudly presents SLIIT Math Fest, a Mathematics Competition among Advanced Level students. This competition is open to national, provincial and international schools in the Colombo Education Zone.

Get ready to experience the excitement of the queen of all sciences!

  • Develop analytical and logical thinking in solving mathematical problems, improve mathematical skills, and encourage thinking outside the box as a team player.
  • Bring together potential young math students from different school backgrounds, allowing them to meet and compete against each other.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to enjoy the intellectual challenges of tackling math problems and experience the excitement they bring.

A team should consist of:

  • TYPE 1AB schools in the Colombo Education Zone (National Schools and Provincial Schools).
  • International schools following London Advanced Levels and Pearson Edexcel Advanced Levels.

One School – One Team, One Team – Four Members

Each school can submit only one team consisting of four students. Six teams will be selected for the second round (Final Round). The three winning teams will receive the awards.

  • Certificates will be given to all participants.
  • Prizes will be awarded to winning teams.

The competition consists of two rounds, both held on the same day. The questions will be based on the common academic contents of the Ordinary Level (Grade 11) and Advanced Level syllabuses of Local (Sri Lankan) A Levels, London A Levels, and Pearson Edexcel A Levels.

  • Round 1: Computer-based exam with 25 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with a duration of one hour.
  • Round 2 (Final Round): Essay-type questions with a duration of one hour.
  • Questions will be available in Sinhala, English, and Tamil mediums.
