Mathfest

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (DMS) in the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences (FHS) at SLIIT University proudly presents SLIIT Math Fest, a Mathematics Competition among Advanced Level students. This competition is open to national, provincial and international schools in the Colombo Education Zone.

Get ready to experience the excitement of the queen of all sciences!

  • Develop analytical and logical thinking in solving mathematical problems, improve mathematical skills, and encourage thinking outside the box as a team player.
  • Bring together potential young math students from different school backgrounds, allowing them to meet and compete against each other.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to enjoy the intellectual challenges of tackling math problems and experience the excitement they bring.

A team should consist of:

  • TYPE 1AB schools in the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Education Zones (National Schools and Provincial Schools).
  • சர்வதேச Schools following London Advanced Levels and Pearson Edexcel Advanced Levels.

One School – One Team, One Team – Three Members

Each school can submit only one team consisting of three students. Best four teams will be selected for the second round (Final Round) which is a buzzer round containing three sub rounds.

  • Certificates will be given to all participants.
  • Best three teams of each education zone in the first round will receive awards.
  • Best four teams who will be selected for the second round (Final Round) will receive the awards.

The competition consists of two rounds, both will be held on the same day. The questions will be based on the common academic contents of the Ordinary Level (Grade 11) and Advanced Level syllabuses of Local (Sri Lankan) A Levels, London A Levels, and Pearson Edexcel A Levels.

  • Round 1: Computer-based exam involving multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and short answer questions, with a duration of 45 minutes.
  • Round 2 (Final Round): A Buzzer Round of questions with a one hour duration.
  • Questions will be available in Sinhala, English, and Tamil mediums.

The Mathematics interactive session will be held after the 1st round of the MathFest as usual. It contains many interesting items, activities, puzzles, and questions in Math which showcase the beauty of Mathematics. We strongly encourage students and teachers to participate in this interactive event.
