Royal Roads University was established in 1995 in Colwood, British Columbia, on the historic grounds of Hatley Park, a site with over a century of heritage. Originally built as a military college in 1940, the estate includes a grand castle and beautifully landscaped gardens, reflecting its rich historical significance.
Since its founding as a public university, Royal Roads has focused on applied and professional education, blending academic rigor with practical experience. Its unique history and setting continue to inspire students while fostering innovation, leadership, and lifelong learning in a supportive environment.
We are a leading non-state higher education institute approved by the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Additionally, we are members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the International Association of Universities (IAU). Our Civil and Mechanical engineering degrees are recognized by IESL, Sri Lanka. SLIIT is the first Sri Lankan institute to be accredited by the Institution of Engineering & Technology, UK. We've been ranked 8th in Sri Lanka and emerged as the number 1 non-state higher education institution in Sri Lanka.
