
On 23rd October 2024, the The Institution of Engineers, Sri lanka (IESL) officially inaugurated its student chapter at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). The announcement was made by IESL President, Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake, during the ‘IESL Day 2024’ event organized by the Engineering Society of SLIIT, which served as the precursor to the student chapter.
A significant highlight of the event was the ceremonial installation of board members for the newly formed IESL student chapter. Distinguished guests, including IESL Vice President Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya and IESL Young Members Section (YMS) Chair Eng. Dushyantha Wanniarachchi, graced the occasion. Additionally, SLIIT Chancellor and Chairman Prof. Lakshman Rathnayake, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost Prof. Nimal Rajapakse, Dean of the SLIIT – Faculty of Engineering Malabe, Sri Lanka Prof. Ayantha Gomes, and other faculty members were present.
The event concluded with a keynote address by the IESL President on the timely topic of “Engineers for Socio-Economic Development,” offering valuable insights to the students in attendance.
