On May 28th, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering at SLIIT proudly opened its newly furnished Switchgear Laboratory, a major milestone in academic–industry collaboration. Powered by the expertise and support of IPD Colombo, this facility is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in modern power distribution and protection technologies.
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Prof. Rathnayake, Chairman of SLIIT, who delivered the opening remarks, and Prof. Nimal Rajapaksha, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, who gave an insightful introduction to the university’s mission and growth. Mr. Mohamed Yoosuff, Chairman of IPD Colombo, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of industry-ready graduates.
Located in Room F1001 on the 10th floor of the new engineering building, the lab is now open to students and faculty as a hub for innovation, learning, and practical skill development.
