The University of Victoria traces its roots back to 1903 when it was founded as Victoria College, an affiliated college of McGill University. Later, it became part of the University of British Columbia before gaining full independence in 1963 as the University of Victoria. Since then, the university has grown into one of Canada’s leading research institutions, known for its strong academic programs, innovative research, and commitment to community engagement. Today, UVic welcomes thousands of students from around the world and continues to expand its reputation for excellence in education and discovery.
We are a leading non-state higher education institute approved by the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Additionally, we are members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the International Association of Universities (IAU). Our Civil and Mechanical engineering degrees are recognized by IESL, Sri Lanka. SLIIT is the first Sri Lankan institute to be accredited by the Institution of Engineering & Technology, UK. We've been ranked 8th in Sri Lanka and emerged as the number 1 non-state higher education institution in Sri Lanka.
