
SLIIT and Deakin University unveil groundbreaking Australian AI Degree Program in Sri Lanka
SLIIT and Deakin University, Australia, have launched Sri Lanka’s first Australian Bachelor’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI), marking a significant milestone in higher education. The official launch ceremony took place recently providing a platform to showcase the innovative program. The panelists of the event included H.E. Paul Stephens, the Australian High Commissioner; Professor Bas Baskaran, Pro Vice Chancellor International Research Partnerships, Associate Dean International and Partnerships, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, Deakin University, Australia; and SLIIT representatives Professor Lakshman Ratnayake, Chancellor/Chairman, and Professor Nimal Rajapakse, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost.
This three-year program, delivered in Sri Lanka with Deakin’s visiting faculty, offers a global learning experience and aligns with Deakin’s academic standards. Students gain expertise in AI, machine learning, robotics, and data science through hands-on industry projects. High-achievers can access merit-based scholarships covering up to 25% of tuition fees, with the flexibility to transfer and complete studies in Australia, making world-class education more accessible to Sri Lankans.
