The SLIIT Research Excellence Awards 2023 was held on 3rd September 2024 at the SLIIT Malabe premises, attended by the SLIIT Top Management and awardees. This year’s event celebrated the achievements of SLIIT’s leading researchers, whose groundbreaking scientific research garnered the highest citations and publications in prestigious databases like Scopus and Google Scholar. Their innovative contributions have not only advanced knowledge in their respective fields but have also strengthened SLIIT’s reputation as a hub for impactful research, addressing global challenges and driving technological progress over the last 25 years.
This year’s event honoured SLIIT’s top researchers whose scientific research publications received the highest citations in the Scopus Indexed Database and Google Scholar Database in 2023, with Prof. Nimal Rajapaksa (Senior Deputy Vice – Chancellor & Provost) topping the list, earning the highest citations for the year 2023. They were awarded with Plaques for outstanding contribution.
Awards were presented to researchers who published outstanding scientific work in journals ranked in the Top 10% of the Scopus CiteScore Index, with recipients being recognized with plaques, certificates, and cash prizes. A new segment was introduced this year, recognizing publications in the Top 25% (Q1) and Top 50% (Q2) of the Scopus CiteScore Index for 2023. Researchers in these categories were awarded certificates acknowledging their valuable contributions to SLIIT’s research endeavors.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the SLIIT Special Research Excellence Award 2023 to Prof. Ruwan Jayathika from the SLIIT School of Business, for his remarkable contribution of 14 research articles published in top 25% Scopus-indexed journals, which included 3 Top 10% publications.
Academics who secured external research grants were also recognized with certificates for their contributions to advancing research at SLIIT.
Another special segment introduced this year recognized students and academic projects that won international and local awards. These SLIIT Recognition Awards were presented by Prof. Lalith Gamage, Vice Chancellor/CEO of SLIIT.
The awardees, along with the Deans of Faculties, Pro Vice Chancellors were welcomed by Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & International), who highlighted that SLIIT conducted over 800 research projects in 2023, many of which have the potential to impact the world. The awardees were also congratulated by the Vice Chancellor/CEO for their exceptional contributions to research last year.
The event was organized by Asangi Jayasinghe, Director of Research Enterprise and International Relations at SLIIT, with the PVC (Research & International) Office team.
