With the aim of improving and instilling team work, problem solving, and leadership skills, the Business Faculty of SLIIT conducted a�?Soft Skills + 2015a�? for the third consecutive year at the SLIIT campus in Malabe. This island wide, inter school quiz competition and soft skills workshop attracted over 375 students from 40 schools.
The event was carried out in two segments. The first segment was a fun filled group activity focusing on Soft Skills, such as team work, creative thinking, time management, working under pressure and problem solving. The second segment was a quiz competition comprising five focus areas; General Knowledge, News and Current Affairs, Sports, History and Arts and Entertainment. While 62 teams from 40 schools participated in the preliminary round, 25 teams were selected for the Grand Finale.
After hours of battling for the title, Ananda College, Colombo, secured first place in the quiz competition with Bandaranayake College, Gampaha and Musaeus College, Colombo coming in second and third respectively.
At the preliminary round, Guest Speaker, Mr. Kumara Galhenage, Recruitment Manager, Human Resources, at Nestle Lanka PLC commented on the importance of non verbal communication. The chief guest for the finals, Mr. Chaminda Rajapaksha, Assistant General Manager, Metropolitan Computers (Pvt) Ltd, highlighted the effect soft skills have on students and their future.
Commenting on the event, Professor Chandana Perera, Dean Faculty of Business at SLIIT states, a�?We organize this programme every year for school children, to develop their soft skills by enhancing their knowledge on a wide range of disciplines, such as problem solving, team work, out of the box thinking, general knowledge and creativity which are not included in the school curriculum.
