After successful completion of his master’s degree in Network & Information security in which he obtained a distinction award, Kavinga entered the academia by joining Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology as a lecturer in the department of information systems engineering. Kavinga remains keen on few key areas of research in the field of information security such as cloud security, enterprise risk management, social engineering in information security and privacy management in big data. During the past three years he has made over ten notable publications in prominent conferences and journals worldwide.

Prior to joining Academia:

Having started his professional career as a pre-sales network engineer at Lanka Communications (Pvt) Ltd, Kavinga Yapa Abeywardena entered the academia in January 2016 following the completion of his master’s degree at Kingston University, London. In 2012, he completed his bachelor’s degree in ‘Computer Networks’ with a distinction at University of Hertfordshire and he was immediately recruited by one of Sri Lanka’s leading telecommunication providers Lanka Communications (Pvt) Ltd; a subsidiary of Singapore Telecom where he played a key role as a presales engineer to introduce IPTV solutions to the hospitality industry of Sri Lanka in collaboration with SingTel. During his two year tenure as an engineer he excelled in installations, configurations and maintenance of network services, equipment and devices. He also managed to obtain CCNA and CCNSP professional certifications during this period.
