Career Summary

Ms. Shashika Lokuliyana is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Systems Engineering, Faculty of Computing, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), Sri Lanka. She is an academic, researcher, and technology leader committed to advancing computing education, conducting impactful research, and fostering professional engagement through innovation, collaboration, and international service.

She has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across computer systems engineering and computing disciplines, delivering courses in computer networks, operating systems, UNIX system programming, network programming, information and network security, cybersecurity, and emerging networking technologies. Throughout her academic career, she has held several academic leadership and student support roles, having served as a Programme Coordinator, Year Coordinator, Student Counsellor, Academic Mentor, and Research Supervisor. She has supervised and mentored numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guiding students in conducting high-quality research, publishing scholarly work, and participating in national and international competitions. She has also actively contributed to curriculum development, quality assurance, outcome-based education, and academic administration.

Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, Trust Management, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Edge Computing, Intelligent Networking, Smart Agriculture, Quality of Service (QoS), Blockchain Security, and Secure Distributed Systems. Her research focuses on designing intelligent, secure, and sustainable computing solutions that address contemporary technological and societal challenges. She actively collaborates with academia and industry on interdisciplinary research projects while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and research excellence among students.

Ms. Lokuliyana is an active volunteer and internationally recognized leader within the IEEE community. She currently serves as the Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Sri Lanka Affinity Group, where she leads national initiatives that promote diversity, inclusion, leadership, and professional development in engineering and technology. She also serves as the Women in Computing Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter and the Faculty Advisor of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter at SLIIT, mentoring students in technical excellence, leadership, innovation, and community engagement.

She has made substantial contributions to the organization and success of numerous international scientific conferences. She has served in several leadership positions, including Conference Secretary, Technical Program Committee (TPC) Member, Publicity Chair, Publication Co-Chair, and Organizing Committee Member for IEEE and other international conferences. Her contributions span conference management, technical programme coordination, publication management, reviewer coordination, publicity, and the successful delivery of high-impact international research events.

In addition to her conference leadership, Ms. Lokuliyana is an active member of the international scholarly community, serving as a reviewer for numerous IEEE conferences, international conferences, local conferences, and peer-reviewed journals. Through these roles, she contributes to maintaining the quality, integrity, and advancement of research in computing, engineering, and information technology.

She has organized and delivered numerous international technical workshops, distinguished lectures, hackathons, research forums, leadership programmes, and STEM outreach initiatives in collaboration with academics, researchers, industry professionals, and international organizations. Her professional activities are driven by a commitment to advancing research, strengthening academia–industry collaboration, empowering future technology leaders, and promoting inclusive participation in STEM.

As a Senior Member of IEEE, Ms. Lokuliyana continues to contribute to the global research community through academic leadership, high-quality research, international professional service, student mentorship, and the promotion of engineering and technology for the benefit of society.
