This is a BBA specialisation for students who want to shape the future of financial services. It integrates finance, business and technology, developing the knowledge to understand how financial systems work and the capability to use AI, data, digital platforms and emerging technologies to create better products, services and business models.

At SLIIT, students explore digital payments, digital banking, open finance, financial platforms, APIs and new financial ecosystems, gaining a deep and practical understanding of how modern financial systems actually operate today across the industry. The programme also examines closely how data and AI support credit, fraud detection, financial risk, forecasting and customer intelligence, equipping students with the analytical capability needed to drive smarter, technology-enabled financial decisions and outcomes.

Students also build capabilities relevant to banks, FinTech firms, payment providers, insurers, investment firms, technology companies and regulators, preparing them to operate confidently across the evolving global financial services landscape. This specialisation is ideal for students who want to combine financial expertise with technological fluency and lead meaningful innovation within the industry.

This programme provides a strong foundation in finance and technology, emphasizing critical thinking, evaluation, and hands-on industry experience. Students will:

  • Master the Business & Finance Core – Management, economics, accounting, corporate finance, financial markets, risk management, and entrepreneurship.
  • Build Financial Technology Foundations – Digital banking, digital payments, open finance, financial platforms & APIs, and emerging financial technologies.
  • Explore Data & Artificial Intelligence – Business & financial analytics, AI in finance, credit analytics, fraud & financial crime analytics, and financial forecasting.
  • Apply Governance & Security – FinTech regulation, RegTech, cybersecurity, digital identity, data privacy, and financial technology risk.

This programme develops strong financial and technical expertise, preparing graduates for leadership at the intersection of finance, business, and emerging financial services technology.

Upon successful completion of the programme at SLIIT, graduates will,

  • Integrate Business, Finance & Technology – Integrate business, finance and technology knowledge to address challenges in modern financial services.

Course Summary

Local A/Ls:

Minimum of 3 ‘’S” passes in Commerce stream AND a “S” pass in O/L English OR A/L General English.

OR

Minimum of 3 “S” passes in any stream with “Economics” as a main subject AND “S” passes for O/L Mathematics and English (“S” pass for A/L General English is accepted in place of O/L English)

OR

Minimum of 3 “S” passes in any stream AND “S” passes for O/L Mathematics and English (“S” pass for A/L General English is accepted in place of O/L English) AND completing the Business Bridging Programme conducted by SLIIT.

 

Cambridge/Edexcel A/Ls:

Minimum of 3 ‘’D” passes for subjects equivalent to the Commerce stream of Local A/Ls AND a “D” pass in O/L English.

OR

Minimum of 3 “D” passes in any stream with “Economics” as a main subject AND “D” passes for O/L Mathematics and English.

OR

Minimum of 3 “D” passes in any stream AND “D” passes for O/L Mathematics and English AND completing the Business Bridging Programme conducted by SLIIT.

 

Applicants should also pass the Aptitude Test conducted by SLIIT.

The fee for this degree is LKR 375,000 per semester. Fees for each semester must be paid before commencement of the semester.

No prior programming experience is expected. Relevant programming, analytics and technology skills are developed through the degree.
