MathFest

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SLIIT organizes Math Fest, a competitive platform for A/L students from national, provincial, and international schools in the Colombo Zone, celebrating the power, logic, and beauty of mathematics through challenging and engaging problem-solving rounds.

Math Fest aims to ignite a passion for mathematics among school students by encouraging analytical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Participants compete in a stimulating environment that showcases their skills and deepens their appreciation for the subject, reinforcing mathematics as a cornerstone of innovation and academic excellence.

A team should consist of students from:

  • TYPE 1AB schools in the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Education Zones taking mathematics as a subject for local A/Ls. (National Schools & Provincial Schools) 
  • International Schools and local private schools following mathematics as a subject for local A/Ls, Cambridge A/Ls or Edexcel A/Ls.  
  • One School – One Team, One Team – Three Members

 

Each school can submit only one team consisting of three students. The best four teams from the first round will be selected for the second round (Final Round).

  • Participation certificates will be given to all participants.  
  • The best three teams of each education zone in the first round will be recognized.  
  • The best four teams who will be selected for the second round (Final Round) will receive the awards.

The competition consists of two rounds, both will be held on the same day. The questions will be based on the common academic contents of the Ordinary Level (Grade 11) and first year of Advanced Level syllabuses of Local (Sri Lankan) A Levels, Cambridge A/Ls and Edexcel A/Ls. 

  • Round 1:  Computer-based exam involving multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and short answer questions, with a duration of 45 minutes. Questions will be available in Sinhala, English, and Tamil mediums. 
  • Round 2 (Final Round): A Buzzer Round of questions. Questions will be available in Sinhala, English, and Tamil mediums.
