BSc Engineering (Hons)

in Civil Engineering

With a strong focus on building theoretical and practical based study, the Bsc in Civil Engineering incorporates the students to gain hand in experience in real time assignments, group projects, and co-curricular activities. The students are required to attend an internship in their vacation period as a part of their degree.

Program Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Identify, formulate and analyse complex civil engineering problems reaching valid conclusions.
  • Design systems, components, or processes to meet desired needs within realistic constraints.
  • Investigate complex civil engineering problems using research-based knowledge and research methods, including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools necessary to complete complex civil engineering activities.
  • Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess the impacts of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, societal, legal, cultural, and health & safety context.
  • Apply broad knowledge of sustainable development concepts and practices required for dealing with issues related to professional engineering practice.
  • Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
  • Function effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team as a team member, manager or team leader.
  • Communicate complex engineering activities to a variety of audiences by means of appropriate designs, plans, reports, presentations and instructions.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering, management and finance to manage engineering projects.
  • Engage in life-long learning through continually extending and building on professional understanding and skills acquired during undergraduate learning.

Why choose Civil Engineering?

The Civil Engineering course is an excellent blend of science and engineering fundamental and essential practical skills. The four-year course of studies leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science of Engineering Honours in Civil Engineering is carefully designed to maintain a judicious balance between theoretical foundations and practical applications.

Students will be exposed to a rigorous academic programme and at the same time, they will be provided ample opportunities to gain hands-on experience in well-equipped laboratories and during exciting field excursions. The Civil Engineering program at SLIIT includes project work based on laboratory experiments, literature reviews, fieldwork and seminars. Students who follow the Civil Engineering program undergo six months of compulsory industrial training at the end of their 2nd and 3rd years, split into two periods of three months each.
