We are proud to announce that Ms. Shashika Lokuliyana (Senior Lecturer) and Ms. Pipuni Wijesiri (Lecturer) of the Department of Computer Systems Engineering, Faculty of Computing, SLIIT, have secured 1st Place in the Mind Spark AI-Hackfest 2025, organized by the British Computer Society (BCS), The Chartered Institute for IT – Sri Lanka!
🌟 Competing under the Open Category, our academic team emerged victorious from an intense first round of 30 participants and a final showdown against 5 top industry competitors.
🎓 Adding to SLIIT’s moment of pride, our 4th Year student team from the Data Science and Software Engineering specializations also secured 1st Place in the Tertiary Category, showcasing the remarkable talent being nurtured through our undergraduate programs.
💡 Held as part of the AI & Data Analytics Summit 2025, this 8-hour hackathon challenged participants to build AI-powered solutions for the e-commerce industry — from sentiment analysis and trend discovery to demand forecasting and data-driven decision-making. The event was coordinated by Prof. Anuradha Jayakody, Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Systems Engineering.
