A group of Civil Engineering students from the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, recently completed a two-week academic and cultural exchange in Sri Lanka under the prestigious New Colombo Plan (NCP).
Hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of SLIIT, the students were accompanied by the Program Lead (Dr. Mehdi Serati) and Program Coordinator (Mr. Jyrah Hodges) from UQ. The program featured technical workshops, site visits, and a hands-on Bridge Design Challenge, guided by experts from both academia and the industry.
Beyond the classroom, students experienced Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and religious diversity, immersing themselves in community-based sustainability and local heritage.
This initiative seamlessly blended engineering knowledge with cultural appreciation, fostering international collaboration and highlighting SLIIT’s ongoing commitment to advancing education while building global ties that contribute to national progress.
