
The Grand Finale of the Microsoft APAC AI for Accessibility Hackathon 2023 was held on the 16th of June. The competition was organized by Microsoft Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Industry Engagement Unit, Faculty of Computing with the aim of encouraging innovation and creativity in leveraging Artificial Intelligence to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities.
The top 10 teams were selected to compete in the final round based on their creative solutions and hard work. Team “HearMe” was announced as the winner of the competition. Their solution was developed to help children who are deaf or hard of hearing with the hope that they can improve their language and cognitive abilities through a mobile application solution using repeated visual and audible learning exercises.
The event was graced by Mr. Harsha Randeny, Country Manager for Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives, Ms. Thilanka Abeywardena, Chief Marketing and Business Operations lead for Microsoft SEA NM, Mr. Prabhath Mannapperuma, Partner Technology Strategist for Microsoft SEA NM, Ms. Sajani Perera, Business Operations Specialist for Microsoft SEA NM, Mr. Janith Ittapana, Vice President, Training and Development for Enable Lanka Foundation. Dr. Nuwan Kodagoda, Dean, Faculty of Computing, Associate Deans, Heads of the Departments and academics from Faculty of Computing participated in the event.
