3rd PGDE Batch Inaugural Session
The 3rd Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) batch inaugural session was held at the SLIIT main auditorium on February 11, 2023. Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, Dean – of SLIIT Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, welcomed the guests and the students. During his speech, he stated about the history of the programme as well as the new methodology that has been adopted in conducting the programme. The session was graced by Prof. Nimal Rajapakse – Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahula Attalage – Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), Mr. Yashas Mallawarachchi – Director/Academic Affairs and the Visiting Lecturers.
Prof. Nimal Rajapakse shared his valuable insights about the importance of the role of 21st-century teachers, and Prof Attalage discussed the challenges in global education today. The coordinator of the PGDE programme, Dr. Virajith Gamage spoke about the important aspects of the programme as well as the responsibilities of the students to successfully complete the programme.
Mr. Asanka Chaminda, The Principal of Sandalanka Central College, and a student from the second batch of the PGDE programme, shared their experiences, as well as the assistance and support the program coordinators and lecturers provided to the students. The session was concluded by a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. T. Thanaraj, Head – School of Education.
