On March 28th 2018, our our CEO, Prof. Lalith Gamage and Chairman, Prof. Lakshman Ratnayake graced the opening of the new data centre at the SLIIT Malabe main building. The event was also attended by academics from all faculties, as well as non-academic staff. Both students and staff at SLIIT are set to benefit from this new, state-of-the-art data centre in a multitude of ways. For starters, they will be able to enjoy 10x fast connectivity when it comes to staff and student applications. Weall also have the capacity to conduct online examinations for over 1250 candidates at a time, a considerably significant development. Furthermore, thereall be an increased availability of IT services enhancing accessibility and convenience, whilst simultaneously providing these services centrally to both SLIIT campuses and centres.
As the first high performance cluster in a Sri Lankan campus environment for researchers, this data centre is not only energy-efficient and thereby environmentally conscious, but also comes with temperature control systems and fast recovery features. More efficient and safer than ever before, it is a notable milestone in the SLIIT calendar and testimony to our on-going efforts in equipping the campus as effectively as possible so our students may consistently be able to rely on unwavering student support for their academic goals.
