Message from the Dean

The Faculty of Humanities and Sciences is the latest addition at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) that offers the widest range of programmes offered by a Faculty within the Campus. The programmes are offered in the areas of Law, Psychology, Nursing, Education, Biotechnology and Mathematics. The Faculty has established both local and foreign affiliations to provide the students with the options of selecting the recognition of their degree programmes. Currently the Faculty offers 8 programmes related to the above areas and intends to increase up to 15 for the new intake.

Our investment over the Faculty in creating an effective teaching-learning environment is evident by the state-of-the-art laboratories that are established. There are currently six laboratories namely, Biochemistry and Molecular, Tissue Culture, Physics, Nursing Skills, Nutrition and Anatomy. All of these laboratories are well equipped to aid research and laboratory practical lessons of the Science related programmes. In addition the Faculty also operates a Greenhouse in terms of a hi-tech agriculture system (vertical Farming) to aid the teaching and research of the Biotechnology programme. The Greenhouse was established following the award of the largest Research Innovation and Commercialization (RIC) grant offered by the World Bank funded Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) operations to a non-state higher education institute in the country.

Our degree programmes have been designed with the consultation of our well-experienced and qualified panel of academics and industry experts. The Faculty consists of a panel of eminent academics which includes, Prof. Colin Peiris, Professor in Biotechnology and Emeritus Professor of University of Peradeniya, Prof. Sriyani Peiris, Professor of Biotechnology and Emeritus Professor of University of Peradeniya. Prof. Denzil Rosa, Professor in Physics of University of Colombo, Prof. Naganathan Selvakkumaran, Professor in Law and Legal studies of University of Colombo and Prof. Somasundaram Sandarasegaram, Associate Professor and Former Dean of Faculty of Education of University of Peradeniya.

The aim of the Faculty is to groom a well-balanced student with high level of employability through exceptional 21st Century Skills. The Faculty encourages students to take part in extracurricular activities conducted in the Campus in addition to the academic work they carryout in order to achieve the above aim.
