Interest-Free Student Loan Scheme

The Budget Proposal 2017 suggested to provide opportunities to students who are qualified in G.C.E. (A/L) but miss out University entrance. Therefore, according to the Budget lsroposal of 2017 under the student loan scheme a maximum loan amount Rs.800, 000.00 for the entire course of study, (+75,000.00 for other expenses) per student will be provided for those who wish pursue a selected Degree program offered by ministry of Higher Education approved Non-State Higher Education Institutes.

To Whom

The programme this year will be open for admission for the students who have qualified with a minimum of 3 Passes in 2017 AL examinations.

Students who follow the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree and serve for 7 years as a teacher in a government school in a difficult area will be eligible for a waive off of the full loan amount taken under the above scheme

Graduate Opportunities

The Degree programmes mentioned below are offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences for the Loan Scheme.

  • - Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Physical Sciences
  • - Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Biological Sciences
  • - Bachelor of Education (Hons) in English

Loan + Stipend

• Each student will be granted a loan of Rs. 800,000.00 to complete the degree programme within the given period of four (04) years.
• Students are also eligible for a stipend of Rs. 75,000.00 per annum which can be utilized for accommodation and meals if studying in an institute far from home.

Repayment of Loan + Stipend

• Upon successful completion of the degree in four (04) years, the student has a period of seven (07) years to repay the loan amount starting from the 5th year.
• Interest for the loan given to student will be settled by the Government during above specified loan repayment period.
• If the student is able to find a job upon completion of the Degree, student needs to make necessary arrangement to pay the loan as per the agreement with the Bank of Ceylon.
